HOW TO Auto-shorten Your Links For Better Buffer Analytics

Here is just a quick update for you on some of the latest changes we have made to Buffer to make your life easier.

For a long time we have automatically shortened links when sharing from all of our browser extensions, as of today we have took shortening even further and links will now be shortened as you type in both the dashboard and browser extensions!

Of course, sometimes you don’t want links shortened – in this case just hit the toggle switch next to the post buttons, this will turn off auto-shortening until you toggle it back on again.

With this update we have also added support for different bit.ly accounts associated with each of your profiles, your posts and tweets will always be sent with the correct shortened links for each Twitter and Facebook profile.

Of course, all of this this will work in exactly the same way for your browser extension:

What is the benefit of having all your URLs shortened in Buffer?

Making it easier for you to shorten your links is something that can make your sharing much more powerful. Not only are you able to write longer messages for your Tweets, it also allows us to give you awesome analytics on any Buffered Tweet you are sending.

Whenever one of your links goes out and is shortened, we are able to track the number of clicks and retweets for you. For Pro plan users, the whole analytics section is even real time. It also displays mentions and favorites for you on Pro.

Here is a set of analytics for one Tweet:

I hope the update makes it easier for you to have all of your links tracked and see analytics for each of your Tweets. If you have any thoughts, just let me know below and I will be quick to reply.
