Imagine you could plan and manage your social media updates the same way you do your Google or Outlook calendars. We wanted to bring the ease of scheduling events on your calendar right into your Buffer account. Sharing with Buffer will never be the same!

Introducing the Social Media Calendar for fully managing all your social accounts, at-a-glance!

calendar-launch-600x410@2x

With the social media calendar, you can plan ahead, reschedule, drag things around, see performance and more, all at a glance, just like you would with a regular calendar.

We’re grateful for the chance to help you massively cut down the time you spend with organizing your content, helping you get an overview of what’s ahead (and behind) and allowing you to spend more time on the things that’ll help you grow and improve your social media results.

We’re super excited to share this with you today and would love to dive in further into all the features and full power we hope to give you with the new Social Media Calendar!

See the Social Media Calendar in action

Before delving deeper into the awesome benefits of the calendar, I thought I’d start by showing a quick look at the calendar in action:

More than a queue: A new way of organizing your social updates

You are probably already familiar with the Buffer queue, it is where your social media updates live and now they also live in the Social Media Calendar!

With the Social Media Calendar, you can see everything in your queue at-a-glance one week at a time! You can now also  find openings in your Buffer schedule to add new updates.

Schedule Into the Future

While Buffer can already help you schedule posts in the future, we felt it was lacking an easy way to schedule months in advance. And now you can do all of it and more!

Some of the ways you can use the calendar for updates include:

Planning embargo posts

Working on a super secret project that can only be revealed at a specific date? The calendar will help you plan ahead, schedule your announcement and other posts around it.

Creating custom scheduled posts

You can now create custom scheduled posts to fill empty pre-set timeslot on your Buffer schedule anytime in the future.

Organizing how content gets shared over time

With an overall view of your upcoming weeks, it’s never been easier to plan how your content gets shared. If a day feels too crowded with one type of content, you can now simply add, remove or move things around to make your sharing even better and more diverse.

Add New Updates Directly on the Social Media Calendar

Just like adding an event to your calendar, adding a social update has never been easier. Simply click on either one of your open timeslot or anywhere between to open the Buffer composer and write up your update as usual.

Pin Updates

If you ever wished to pin specific updates within your queue, now you can! Any post scheduled through the Social Media Calendar will be pinned to the time you’ve scheduled it. In other words, you don’t have to worry about Buffer moving it around in your schedule when you add posts to your queue or move updates to the top of your queue. You can now feel free to add posts into your queue knowing that all of your scheduled calendar posts will stay right where you put them.

The product team has also provided a really nice visual way for you to see your pinned and non-pinned updates. For pinned updates, you will notice a blue banner on them both on the Social Media Calendar and the Queue.

As Easy as Drag and Drop

If you want to move one of your scheduled update to a different time or slot, it only takes a drag and a drop to make it happen! You can even move them to your preferred time down to the minute!

A Look into the Past

The Social Media Calendar can also help you take a look into your sharing history. Can’t remember what you shared last week? Turn back the clock and take a look at past weeks. You can also hover over any update to get a quick preview of the post itself and some performance analytics.

Re-Buffer With One Click

So you’ve taken a look at past shares and find that one post that would be perfect to reshare. We’ve got you covered for that as well! Simply click the “Re-Buffer” button and fill out all the information needed in the composer as usual!

Multimedia Producer at Buffer. TV Lover! I could talk about my favorite shows all day (and I do!). Love spending time with my dog Tardis, he’s bigger on the inside ;)… sorry that was a TV reference… did I mention I like TV a lot? I also love creating videos on YouTube and am so happy to be part of that amazing community.

  • Joshua Rollins

    Sweet.

  • Meg Cooper

I just got SO incredibly excited about this feature!! Is there a comprehensive calendar in the works? Where all social profiles would be featured (like CoSchedule)?

    • Thanks Meg!! That would be a really neat feature and hopefully we can explore something like this down the road! 🙂

  • Only request I have is that when a tweet is selected within the calendar the date at the bottom is linked to the URL for the update, just as it is in list view.

  • Yes, I love the calendar feature. You’ve nailed it, what a great usability! Thanks Buffer Team! Now let me play with it for couple hours 🙂

  • This will make life a lot easier. I was using an IFTTT to update my Google Calendar but this will be so much better. Excited to try this out, and perfect timing as I have a lot of scheduling to do today:)

  • This is great! I will be playing with this for a while. Great job, guys!

  • Sorina Dascalu

I love it! Thanks buffer team, once again you made me happy!

  • madebyfrost

YEEESSSS!!! Thank you! So excited about trying this out, might as well make my company finally pay for a Business account 🙂

  • Pablo

Love the new calendar feature! Have you considered having a view that allows you to see the calendar across multiple accounts? Our content team was discussing the calendar and felt that would be a great addition. Thanks!

    • That’s a great one Pablo!! It’s definitely something we would love to have 🙂

      • Amanda Hendriks-Mouw

Hi Sandrine, just started testing Buffer and Pablo`s suggestion would be perfect for me. Any news on it yet? Or am I just looking in the wrong places?

  • Yassssssss…. I will finally pay for Buffer.

  • Mike

Calendar Looks GREAT… In future can you add a way to see MORE of the weet without having to Hover to see content?? I love the drag and drop from past days.. however is there a way to make this work for more than one account (like when you rebuffer)? Also I see there is a MONTH view also if you change the word week to month in the url which is great… Is there a way to see thaty without changing the url with a selection?? Also one bug… If you have a buffer schedule at the end of the 11 PM hour, it isn’t viewable on the calendar.. Its below the bottom of it…

    • Hi Mike! Thank you for all your awesome suggestions! These are so neat and something we can hopefully explore in the future.
I checked with our product team and it looks like the Monthly view is something they are still working on, so fingers crossed it will be released soon! 🙂
And thanks for noting the bug, I forwarded that one to our team as well 🙂

  • Looks great, I know you guys will keep polishing this up 🙂 Just cancelled by Edgar trial, you almost lost me. Good timing!

  • This is awesome! Thanks guys for doing this 🙂

  • kimkatshepherd

Love the drag and drop functionality and ability to re-post with one click. Waiting for the monthly calendar view.

  • This is super exciting! Buffer’s Awesome Plan is definitely the best investment I’ve ever made, and it’s so budget friendly! Buffer just keeps getting better and better.

  • Wow this is so cool, thanks!

  • Finally !! Dreams and requests do come true. #bufferhappydance

  • I love every pixel about this. Keep kicking ass, Buffer team!

  • tomschueneman

Love the new calendar feature. Buffer is a great tool for my social networking efforts. Thanks for keeping up on the improvements!

  • Kayla Watson

Was so happy to see this introduced into Buffer today! Thank you Buffer Team!

  • Vignesh Subramanyan

I was trying to figure out the best way to recreate a calendar outside of Buffer and now I don’t have to! You have literally made my week, can’t wait to try it out!

  • Yvonne Starno

Love this! Please give me the option to see all platforms on one calendar!

  • I’ve been waiting for this!! So excited to see this feature. In my opinion, there is one feature missing that would make it perfect. CoSchedule enables you to quickly and easily create an image post, pulling the images from a post while Buffer doesn’t include an option for this. To create an image post within Buffer I have to manually upload an image, which is a pain to do for every post. Any plans on adding this option?

  • Wonderful Buffer. Such a great company that keeps on getting better. The value your provide to your customers is incredible. The calendar feature is a game-changer at this level. Thanks again.

  • Susan Parris

This looks brilliant. However, I just have one eensy weensy question. If it’s already on all the paid plans, what exactly are you excited to introduce? Thanks

  • OMG, you guys rock. I was just wishing for this.

  • Great update Team Buffer! Looking forward to using this. @sosandrine:disqus, thanks for the detailed write-up!

  • Alison

Another fantastic idea and offering from Buffer – you guys rock!

  • nehuenmacallister

its great, would love to be able to put colors in to the posts, to divide different kind of tweets! sort of what you can do on Ical…

  • Ali Syme

I like it, but I would have liked the same effort to have been put into the kind of improvements that would bring Buffer in line with the competition.

Bulk uploads, selection of multiple accounts for scheduling, ability to select multiple scheduled posts for editing and a quick “share now” option (now it defaults to adding to the schedule).

I have two accounts – one personal one for work – and for personal use it’s fine, more or less, but when managing multiple accounts across Facebook, Twitter and G+ and needing to create separate links and sometimes separate content per post I’m better off with Hootsuite or even doing it manually for the amount of time Buffer saves me.

Conclusion, nice calendar, but surely you could work on the fundamentals expected of any social media management tool?

  • I thought Buffer was pretty good but it seems you’ve made it better still. Where you are making multiple tweets in a day though it can be pretty squashed. What about allowing it to extend vertically?

  • Sarah Joanne

Via the Publisher function in Hootsuite I can download an Excel list of scheduled / previous Tweets. Does anyone know if this is possible with Buffer? Thanks in advance!

  • Yonah

I am a very visual person and this new calendar feature is going to make my job SO much easier and much more fun! Thank you buffer for constantly providing new and improved features. You rock!!!!

  • This is absolutely gorgeous, and a god-send! Is there an Export Feature on the road map? I have some clients who wish to approve their upcoming social calendars, and using this tool to plan and share would be amazing!

    • Ali Geake

I would also love this functionality!

  • Patrick

This is an awesome new feature, thank you. Am I right in thinking (like Pablo) that the calendar only shows one Social Media account at one time? Ie in the calendar view in Buffer I can see all the scheduled posts for one of my Facebook or Twitter accounts but not all of my scheduled posts from all Facebook and Twitter accounts at the same time? If it really isn’t possible to view ALL my posts in the calendar it makes it impossible to get an overview of all my content…

  • Mike

    This is awesome 😀

  • YES! I am so happy this is finally here, and that it looks and works so great! This is something that had been unfortunately missing from my Buffer posting workflow, and this will now make my posting life a lot easier! =]

One thing I would suggest: I think the launch of the social calendar is a GREAT time to bring in a “wide view” option for the buffer layout on a desktop. On a wide screen, there is a lot of wasted space on both sides of the Bufferapp content; I have found it til now to be a good mix of aesthetic and functionality (having a default wide view could be a very cluttered affair!), but with the calendar it could enable a richer view. As it is, we are only seeing about 13 characters worth of each title in the listings on the calender, whereas if there were a wider view, it would be easier to tell what each post is. Just a thought!

Thanks for the great new feature, and thank YOU Sandrine for such a well written post! =]

  • One more little thing I would suggest (to make this already great feature even better) is to make the date header static.

If you look at the graphic I made, the “Current View” shows what the Social Calender looks like when you first go to it. As soon as you scroll up to see the later hours of the day in the calendar, the whole header disappears (as can be seen in “Scrolled up View”). There’s not really a need to have the whole header there, but the visual aspect starts to get a little less friendly since there is no quick way to see what day or date each column corresponds to.

I think the solution to this is to make the day/date part of the header scroll up with the header BUT then remain visible as you scroll down to the later hours of the day, as you can see in “Date-on-Top View.”

I know it might not be a big deal for most people, but I think this small fix could really help keep the aesthetic and functionality tied well together. Thanks for reading =]

  • Double Helix

    This is amazing, thanks!

  • This is a great feature! Question though, if I’m pre-planning and scheduling content that is in reference to a scheduled blog post, is there a way to have it generate a bit.ly link or something similar that will link to that post?

  • I have been waiting for a tool like this. Thanks Buffer. This makes it worth going to a paid plan just for this feature. Love it!!

  • You just keep getting better and better! The calendar looks great and I loooooove drag and drop feature.

    Mahalo,
    Rose http://www.consciousrose.com

  • This is FREAKING AWESOME and I tweeted about this too! Great job @buffer team, I asked for this last year and u did it better than I thought!

The only thing I’m not getting is the Pinned posts and how buffer would handle that.

Moreover, I am not sure these updates includes also I feature I’d love to see on buffer.

Let’s say I have my favourite times to post on FB:
    – 10.30
    – 15.00
    – 21.35

if I have scheduled some posts for today let’s say 6 months ago, and by mistake I put it at 10.30 or around it… is there a way to “auto sort” scheduled posts with Power Scheduler in order to have them follow the favourite times as above?

not sure I was able to explain but thanks 4 your time… and again great work you did guys!

    Marco

  • Would it be possible to set this up to Sync with actual Google Calendar? That would be amazing.

THIS IS AWESOME!!! Thank you so much! I’m so glad I stayed with Buffer. So excited!

  • Victoria Lumb

This looks fab. I sadly can’t get access to any of the paid plans because you need a credit card to do so, and I don’t have one (they’re not really available here in France!) So please, please, please give us an alternative way of joining the plan without a credit card.

  • Radhika

What a great idea, it is like your personal reminder clock to help you stay on top

  • Very cool – just another reason i adore Buffer!

  • 200fingersandtoes

I have been using Buffer and built two solid weeks of scheduled posts. I can see a steady rise in page views as a direct result of adding Buffet to my blog toolbox.
    Thank you.

  • BlogALiving

Thank you so much for this! I have one suggestion: I frequently switch
scheduled posts over to the Buffer queue. At this point, I believe I can
only do this in list view – in Calendar, I’m not seeing a way to do
that. I would love for that to be added to Calendar at some point.

  • Love the calendar, but it would be great if I could drag a post to another week. Or click on it and edit the date and time manually.

  • Do you have any training or tutorial videos on various features? The video on this post goes way to fast for me to “catch” what’s going on… 🙂
