      I’m keen on going back through the post and making sure that all of the courses are truly “free” for everyone. I think with this one, the course materials were free, but to get access to the official certificate, that was a paid option.

      • Hey Brian, was just about to chime in here with the same info—this course used to be free (including all Coursera courses) with an optional upgrade to the specialization, but there was a recent change. I also told my social media interns about the course and that it was free; they were the ones that alerted me that it no longer was. Looks like Northwestern University in particular no longer allows taking courses that are part of a specialization for free on Coursera. I think some of the other specialization courses are the same now—even if you try to take them individually and without a certificate, they are no longer free. Too bad, because yes, when I took the course a few months ago, it was free and GREAT!

    The courses look good and I’ve seen some of them before. But how would these measure up in employers’ eyes against qualifications from CIM or CIPR? As a marketer with 1 year’s experience, would these help me get my next role?

      Ahh yes! Great question @erinljohnson:disqus 🙂 I think that more and more online certifications from many of the resources above are becoming recognized by employers. Though I will say that they don’t necessarily take the place of a degree or accredited certification.

      I think what these are best for is so that you can apply a lot of the principles in real life. Your next employer may be looking for the specific projects you’ve worked on and these courses will help you demonstrate that on a wide scale.

    I greatly appreciate this load of information and how all of can be intertwined. I think the interweaving of #5 and #8 is a huge step for beginning entrepreneurs to take in starting up their business. Social media is the most prominent way to start up your business, but finding the right way to expand your name in the correct way over social media is key. Without this your business could be doomed before it is even started. I think you again for this wide array of info.
